What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a virtual or digital SIM card that is created on your mobile phone. Modern mobile phones have microchips installed that allow you to install a number of “eSIM profiles”, similar to physical SIM cards with both phone numbers and data plans.

How does international eSIM work?

The first thing you need to do is check your phone for compatibility (listed above). Once you know that your phone is compatible you can choose an ISIM provider that partners with the country you are traveling to. Most eSIM providers are connected to countries across North and South America, Europe and Asia.

All you have to do then is buy a data plan in the country you are traveling to. For example, you can buy an unlimited data plan for the United States that is valid anywhere from five to 90 days.

You will then receive a QR code to activate the plan via eSIM card on your mobile device. And when you’re done, start browsing the web right away.
