Depending on your vaccine status and destination, there are several entry options for international travelers wishing to travel to Thailand. The parameters and requirements of each change are frequent so it is best to visit the official site for the latest updates and more details.

But to give you a brief overview, here are the requirements:

If traveling after or after May 1, 2022

For fully vaccinated travelers

  • Thailand Pass Registration
  • Valid passport
  • Vaccine certificate
  • Insurance with a minimum coverage of 10,000 USD for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only). Note that this has been reduced from the previous 20,000 USD for travelers before May 1.

The COVID-19 test is no longer required.

For immunized travelers

Option A. Passenger RT-PCR test result is negative Release within 72 hours prior to travel must present the following:

  • Thailand Pass Registration
  • Valid passport
  • Negative RT-PCR test results are published within 72 hours of travel
  • Insurance with a minimum coverage of 10,000 USD for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only).
  • Note: Additional COVID-19 tests are no longer applied upon or after arrival in Thailand.

Option B. Travelers who are unable to present RT-PCR test results Those who wish to remain in quarantine within 72 hours of travel must submit the following:

  • Thailand Pass Registration
  • Valid passport
  • Guaranteed Alternative Quarantine (AQ) Hotel Booking for 5 days (with 1 RT-PCR test)
  • Insurance with a minimum coverage of 10,000 USD for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only).
  • Note: RT-PCR test is required in 4-5 days of compulsory quarantine.

If traveling before May 1, 2022

These three entry options are for those who want to go to Thailand from any country in the world.

Test and go program

On the fifth day, passengers must take a self-test antigen testing kit (ATK). Test results must be reported using the Mor Chana mobile app, so you need to download it.

  • Paid 1-night SHA extra plus or AQ hotel booking confirmation
  • Airport transport to the hotel
  • An RT-PCR test that must be taken in 1 day
  • A self-examination that must be taken in 5 days (if more than five days in Thailand)
  • Departure flight confirmation payment (if less than five nights)

Blue Zone Sandbox Program

The Blue Zone, also known as the Sandbox, is an area in Thailand where at least 60% of the population has been fully vaccinated. Travelers must stay in the Sunbox area for five days, but they must first get a negative result of the first RT-PCR test before traveling in the Blue Zone.

On the fifth day, passengers must take a self-test antigen testing kit (ATK). After receiving a negative result, travelers can now explore other destinations in Thailand. Test results must be reported using the Mor Chana mobile app, so you need to download it.

Travelers under this program must secure the following:

  • 5-night SHA extra plus hotel booking confirmation within the sandbox area
  • Airport transport to the hotel
  • An RT-PCR test will be taken on the 1st day
  • You will receive a self-ATK test on the 5th day (if you are in Thailand for more than five days).
  • Departure flight confirmation payment (if less than five nights)

Some of the sandbox destinations include Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga and Surat Thani. You can see the full list of Blue Zone Sandbox destinations on the official website of the Thai Embassy.

Attention! As of writing, Ko Samui, Ko Fa-ngan and Ko Tao travelers will have to take the first RT-PCR test upon arrival at Samui International Airport.

Alternative quarantine program

Also known as Happy Quarantine, Alternative Quarantine is a program or scheme Passengers who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated As well as Tourists who land and enter Thailand. Travelers must stay in a government-approved quarantine hotel for five (5) days.

Alternative quarantine hotels usually cover the following:

  • 5-night stay at a government-approved AQ hotel or similar government-approved facility

  • 24 hours medical / health supervision
  • Full board meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Free wireless – Internet access
  • Covid-19 test
  • Other services (depending on hotel promotion / offer)

As you can see above, not all travelers have to present a guaranteed accommodation booking. But depending on your travel date and your vaccination status, you will need to submit proof that you have a guaranteed reservation with a government-approved SHA (Safety and Health Administration) Extra Plus Hotel or an AQ (Alternate Quarantine) hotel. It must be verified by the system to secure a Thailand pass.

2. Register for the Thailand Pass.

All travelers must apply for the Thailand Pass QR Code. Go to the Thailand Pass registration website.

You must register within seven (7) to 60 days of your departure.

3. Enter your Agoda booking ID.

  1. In the Hotel Booking Information section, check the “Booking with Agoda” box.
  2. Go to the booking ID section (third line) and provide your booking ID.
  3. All other fields will be filled in automatically when you enter your booking ID. Then, click the “Check my booking” button.

Scary! You will receive your booking validation immediately.

Note: If you have any requirements or lack of documents (airport pick-up or COVID-19 test), you will receive a notification. You must upload the payment confirmation for the document you lack. To avoid hassle and extra steps, make sure you book a room package that already includes airport pick-up and RT-PCR testing.

SHA Extra Plus

The SHA (Safety and Health Administration) Plus Certificate was issued by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to ensure that maximum safety standards are followed for the safety of both citizens and tourists while reviving the tourism industry in Thailand.

  • SHA Extra Plus hotels or accommodations are those that meet the requirements, with at least 70% of workers fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as set by Amazing Thailand SHA Plus.
  • Features with an additional Plus (SHA ++) certificate including a hospital partnership that can conduct an RT-PCR test.
  • SHA Extra Plus hotels or accommodations can be booked by fully vaccinated tourists traveling to Thailand.
  • For those traveling before May 1, the test and go package must include the RT-PCR test and an antigen test kit (ATK), while the Blue Zone sandbox package must include the RT-PCR test.
  • Contact the hotel management for the inclusion of food and other services.

Alternate Quarantine (AQ)

Alternative quarantine is a quarantine process conducted in a government-certified quarantine hotel in Thailand.

  • AQ Hotel or accommodation arrangements approved by the government. They partner with selected hospitals to manage quarantine service inclusions. All costs are borne by the passengers.
  • AQ hotels or accommodation can be booked by UNVACCINATED tourists traveling to Thailand. The quarantine period starts at five (5) nights, the day of arrival.
  • The AQ 5-day quarantine package must include the following: full board meal (three meals per day), airport transfer to hotel, on-site nurse, free Wi-Fi and COVID-19 test.
  • Contact the hotel for other services including snacks, doctor’s consultation etc.
